Most likely you are aware of the election and consecration of Rev. Karen Oliveto, a married lesbian elder, as Bishop of The United Methodist Church by The Western Jurisdiction (WJ). We consider this an act of church disobedience and likely to cause harm to our connection and witness. We believe at this time our best response is prayer and patience as we give the system of accountability in The United Methodist Church time to respond with the authority entrusted to it by the church and The Book of Discipline.
Many members of our leadership team will be joining other renewal groups in Chicago for a gathering of the Wesleyan Covenant Association. We continue to be in dialogue with renewal groups that share our values and vision for the future of The United Methodist Church.
We think it is helpful and informative to share these official statements from The Council of Bishops, The College of Bishops of The Southeastern Jurisdiction, The Confessing Movement, and a request for a declaratory ruling sent to the Judicial Council by The South Central Jurisdiction.

Press Release from The Confessing Movement
Request for a declaratory ruling by The South Central Jurisdiction
We ask you to pray and be patient as the Judicial Council responds. As we wait, let us find comfort in the words from Samuel John Stone’s hymn "The Church’s One Foundation,"
Though with a scornful wonder
we see her sore oppressed,
by schisms rent asunder,
by heresies distressed,
yet saints their watch are keeping;
their cry goes up, "How long?"
And soon the night of weeping
shall be the morn of song.
Grace and Peace,
The Executive Committee
